Volunteer

We love our volunteers! And we have service opportunities both on campus and off!

Give your time!

No matter your skills, whether by yourself or as part of a group…you can make a difference by volunteering at The Union Mission Ministries!

It all starts with Individual Volunteer Orientation!

Volunteer Orientation is how The Union Mission Ministries acquaints new prospects with our ministry work and our rules and expectations for on-campus volunteers. We host these informative meetings on the second Saturday morning of odd-numbered months. Individual Volunteer Orientation is open to adults and accompanied children ages 12–17 who wish to serve at the Mission or at Hope Haven in Virginia Beach.

Attending an orientation meeting does not commit you to volunteering with us, but all individual volunteers must complete an orientation meeting before serving on either campus.

Our new volunteer mobilization app makes it easy to register for an upcoming Volunteer Orientation

Just click: unionmission.vomo.org/org/the-union-mission-ministries.

Please note that our volunteer program cannot accommodate court-ordered community service requests. Those with attorney-recommended hours will need to follow our usual orientation process for individuals before volunteering.

Off-site Service

Some volunteers or groups may prefer to participate in an off-campus activity. You might choose to do a collection drive for needed items, pack a Home Tote or two, host a Facebook fundraiser, or prepare bag breakfasts for our working shelter guests—or come up with your own project idea.

Off-campus volunteer activities do not require orientation attendance first, but please coordinate your plans with our Volunteer Engagement Coordinator before starting.

Groups

Chief Petty Officers Damn Neck 010

Your church, business, club, Scouting troop, school, or family can make a difference in our ministry and in our community. On-site opportunities are available year-round for groups of 5 to 15 volunteers at either the Mission or at Hope Haven.

Volunteer Orientation is not required. Since each group project will differ, the details will be explained before you serve together.
